VINTAGE LIFE
I think the first blog is always the hardest to write, just what do you start with? Initially it needs something to grab your attention, and something to end with that will keep you wanting to come back for more. So let’s start with something that we at Daisy-Mae’s Vintage Tea Room got really excited about – our appearance in ‘Vintage Life’ magazine.
Following a brief exchange of emails with Lisa, Vintage Life Deputy Editor, we were asked if we would like our tea room to be featured in the August 2016 edition. Vintage Life is THE magazine for those interested in vintage fashion and lifestyle, so who wouldn’t want to be featured. Previous features about tea rooms had been given a two-page spread, so this was a great opportunity to promote ourselves across the nation to all the readers of Vintage Life.
Lisa, Deputy Editor, asked us to send some photographs and details about Daisy-Mae’s Vintage Tea Room. So I got some photos together, and wrote an article about the tea room which I fully expected them to rewrite, and waited with anticipation for the publication of the August issue. As soon as the postman delivered our subscription copy, we quickly flicked though the pages until we found the article. With the exception of a couple of small sections that they had edited out, it was printed word for word the way I had written it. My first published article. I was now a published writer.
For future blogs I may write about Damaris Jean, a vintage vocalist who had performed in the tea room on two occasions, and returned for a third time in December with Steve Green, a Rat Pack singer, to perform their ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ Christmas show, which we really looked forward to. Plus I may share recipes for our cakes which are made using are speciality teas. The Cloud Catcher cake was particularly popular.
